-- -- Key new features: 1. Now one can select between pieces with or without borders for White and Black separately (default is White piece border on, Black piece border off). Some people may not like borders at all. Some people might like borders on both White and Black pieces (borders on Black pieces look nice on bigger boards). 2. Added ability to assign colouring and sounds to server announcements and notifications (say it might be quite convenient to have an audio notification when your friend arrives). 3. Added Silence general option which switches off all sounds (useful if you want temporarily make WinBoard silent and do not want to change current sound settings). 4. A number of enhancement in Zippy to help you automate your computer account even better. How to install WinBoard 4.2.3.rj4? If you do not have a WinBoard installed use winboard-4_2_3.exe to install WinBoard 4.2.3 and then copy winboard.exe over the existing file in WinBoard directory. Take some time to browse through WinBoard menus to set your custom settings which include board size and colours, font type, size and colour, sounds, etc. If you already have installed a version of WinBoard you need not to install WinBoard 4.2.3 and it is enough to copy winboard.exe over the existing file in WinBoard directory. Before copying the file you may preserve the original winboard.exe by reaming it say to winboard_old.exe. If you already have installed a WinBoard but the version is above 4.2.3 you should preserve WinBoard.ini file by renaming it say to WinBoard_old.ini before starting a new winboard.exe. A new winboard.exe after being started will create a new WinBoard.ini file but all of your custom settings will be lost. If you are inexperienced computer user simply use WinBoard menus to set your custom settings again (sorry about that). If you know something about computers then rename WinBoard.ini (created by a new winboard.exe) say into WinBoard_new.ini and rename back WinBoard_old.ini into WinBoard.ini. Try to start winboard.exe and if it starts cleanly then everything is fine and you do not have to do anything and your WinBoard 4.2.3.rj4 is installed and ready for use. If the winboard.exe fails to start then that is because it does not understand some parameters in WinBoard.ini file. You should compare WinBoard.ini with WinBoard_new.ini and remove the lines in WinBoard.ini containing parameters which do not appear in WinBoard_new.ini. After those lines have been removed new winboard.exe should start with no problems and your installation of WinBoard 4.2.3.rj4 is successfully completed. All the changes are clearly marked in sources with RJ in comments. 4. The changes between WinBoard 4.2.3.rj3 and WinBoard 4.2.3.rj4. WinBoard 4.1 Removed the "fix" of the bug in line colouring when full handle name contains spaces (the "fix" is 3.3 below). Actually the "fix" was causing problems as for example it made WinBoard to treat the following lines as personal tells: --> RookMate says: mam j 24 15 0 r RR - max. 1800 Fideli shouts: pedereng tells you: are you hot gringo(FM) shouts: oferzemer says: idiot resign! So, we simply assume that handle name does not contain spaces. 4.2 Some wording in menus slightly changes. Notify changed into notification, announce changed into announcement, Shout Text changed into Shout, Tell Text changed into Tell, etc., Notify Text changed into Notification and Announce Text changed into Announcement. 3. The changes between WinBoard 4.2.3.rj2 and WinBoard 4.2.3.rj3. WinBoard 3.1 Ability to assign colouring and sounds to server announcements and notifications. 3.2 Added colouring and sounds to t-shouts (the same as for s-shout). 3.3 Fixed bug in line colouring when full handle name contains spaces. 3.4 Added Silence general option which switches off all sounds (useful if you want temporarily make WinBoard silent and do not want to change current sound settings). 2. The changes between WinBoard 4.2.3.rj1 and WinBoard 4.2.3.rj2. Zippy 2.1 A new option /zippyResume is added. If you set /zippyResume True Zippy will issue a resume request as soon as it notices that one of your opponents you have adjourned game with has arrived. Default is False (i.e. no resume will be issued). 1. The changes between WinBoard 4.2.3 and WinBoard 4.2.3.rj1. WinBoard 1.1 Now one can select between pieces with or without borders for White and Black separately (default is White piece border on, Black piece border off). 1.2 Fixed handle leak problem. There was a severe handle leak problem in WinBoard (one handle was leaking per message sent to the ICS). Courtesy to Dr Mann the bug is fixed. 1.3 White piece border is of Black piece colour and not black. 1.4 A cosmetic bug fixed in Board Options dialog. If White piece colour would be changed, border colour on Black piece icon would not change, and vice versa. Zippy 1.3 Timeouts (hard-coded) are added for whisper and kibitz (kibitz = 10 min, whisper = 20 min) to make Zippy re-kibitz or re-whisper not more often than every timeout period (useful when Zippy is in /zt mode and playing a computer which kibitzes its search results or when Zippy is observing a game with lots of whispers). 1.4 If you set /zippyGameEnd gameend2 Zippy will send gameend2 command on game end (you can alias it to whatever it suits you) but it will not send it more often than every 1 hour (hard-coded). This is useful, say, if you want to announce that you are open for play after every game end but do not want to do it too often (people on ISCs can be annoyed by frequent computer shouts or tells). 1.5 A new option /zippySeek is added. Say, you can set /zippySeek onseek to instruct Zippy to send onseek every time it detects a seek. Zippy will not send onseek more often than every 45 minutes (hard-coded). You can alias onseek to be a seek. 1.6 A new option /zippyNotify is added. Say, you can set /zippyNotify False to instruct Zippy not to talk to users on Zippy's notification list when they login (that can be quite annoying). Default is True (so if you are running Zippy in /zt mode you should set this flag to False). 1.7 Probability to re-tell (/zt mode) on tell reduced to 30%, probability to re- message (/zt mode) on message reduced to 20% and probability to re-tell in channel if someone mentions Zippy's username (/zt mode) reduced to 30% (talkative computers may be annoying and can make troubles to its operators).
